Aurelius Privacy Policy

Operator: Sparboe Systems
What We Collect
When you use Aurelius, we collect:
- Account information: email address, name, and timezone
- Journal entries: morning reflections, evening reviews, quick captures, and freeform entries you write, including any mindstate tags saved with those entries
- Voice recordings (when you use voice journaling): short audio clips you record in the app. Audio is forwarded to OpenAI's transcription endpoint for speech-to-text only and is not retained as audio after transcription completes.
- Scores: daily self-assessments (energy, focus, physical, satisfaction), mood tone, and score reflections
- Onboarding answers: free-text answers about your obstacle, cost of inaction, and vision, plus structured choices such as honesty pledge, baseline days, journaling reasons, obstacle categories, fault pattern, and commitment level
- Stoic archetype assignment: archetype identifier, Latin and English labels, and the onboarding verdict generated from your answers
- Goals: virtues and objectives you set during onboarding and use
- Messages: conversations with your AI advisor
- AI-extracted knowledge facts: facts or patterns inferred from your messages and journal entries so Aurelius can remember your context
- AI-generated observations: notes, recurring patterns, and related source-entry references generated from your journal activity
- Weekly evaluations: weekly judgment scores, bands, figure assignments, verdicts, and component summaries
- AI consent records: the consent version you accepted and the time you accepted it
- Device tokens: push notification identifiers for your device
- Notification content: the title, body, and metadata of push notifications we deliver to your device, which may include AI-generated prompts, reflections, reminders, commitments, and brief weekly-lesson snippets, and which may appear on your lock screen
- Optional Notion integration settings: encrypted Notion integration token and target database ID when a per-user Notion export is configured
- Diagnostics and server logs: operational logs that may include your IP address, request metadata, your account identifier, and technical details such as upload file size and type or third-party provider error status, used to operate, debug, and secure the service
How We Use Your Data
- AI-powered guidance: Your journal entries, messages, onboarding answers, scores, and saved context are processed to generate personalized Stoic accountability feedback. The processing is performed by third-party AI providers — see "AI Processing — Third-Party Disclosure" below for the named providers, what is sent to each, and your control over this.
- Push notifications: We send morning prompts, evening reflections, and weekly narratives via push notifications.
- Optional Notion export: If a per-user Notion integration is configured, recent journal entries and scores are exported to that user's Notion database.
- No selling: We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.
AI Processing — Third-Party Disclosure
Provider: Anthropic, PBC ("Anthropic") — the company behind Claude.
What is sent: When you use AI features, relevant journal entries, messages, onboarding answers, scores and score reflections, AI-extracted knowledge facts, AI-generated observations, and weekly evaluation context are transmitted from our servers to Anthropic's Claude API for processing.
Purpose: Generate Stoic accountability responses, daily prompts, weekly narratives, and journal reflections.
Retention by Anthropic: Anthropic retains API request data for up to 30 days for trust and safety purposes; content flagged by their safety systems may be retained longer. See Anthropic's Privacy Policy and Commercial Terms.
No training use: Anthropic does not use API submissions to train their models, per their commercial terms.
Your control: You may withdraw consent at any time from Settings → Privacy → AI processing. Withdrawing consent disables AI chat, AI-generated reflections, summaries, and scheduled AI prompts; existing entries remain on our servers until you delete your account.
Data Storage
Your data is stored on access-controlled servers we operate. It is associated with your account and retained until you delete your account. Your entries, messages, and scores are not end-to-end encrypted: to provide AI guidance and let Aurelius remember you across sessions, they are stored in a form our systems — and the AI providers listed above — can read. We protect access with authentication and standard server controls, but please do not record information you are unwilling to have processed by those providers.
Your Rights
- Access: View all your data within the app
- Deletion: Delete your entire account and all associated data from Settings at any time
- Portability: Your journal entries and scores are accessible through the app
Account Deletion
You can delete your account at any time from the Settings screen in the app. This permanently removes all your live app data including journal entries, messages, scores, goals, notes, reports, weekly caches, Notion bindings, and subscription records. Deletion cannot remove copies already transmitted to the AI and infrastructure providers listed above, which retain data under their own policies, or pages already exported into your own Notion workspace, which you control and can delete in Notion.
Third-Party Services
- Anthropic (Claude): AI processing of journal entries, messages, onboarding answers, scores, and saved context. See Anthropic Privacy Policy.
- OpenAI (Whisper): Audio transcription of voice journal entries. Recorded audio is sent to OpenAI's gpt-4o-mini-transcribe endpoint for speech-to-text conversion. OpenAI does not use API submissions to train their models per their commercial terms, and may retain API inputs and outputs for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring unless covered by special controls. See OpenAI Privacy Policy.
- RevenueCat: Subscription management. See RevenueCat Privacy Policy.
- Expo Push: Notification delivery. We send the notification title, body, and metadata to Expo's push service to deliver it to your device; this content may include AI-generated text and can be shown on your lock screen. See Expo Privacy Policy.
- Notion: Optional per-user export of journal entries and scores when a Notion integration is configured. See Notion Privacy Policy.
Children's Privacy
Aurelius is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. We do not currently verify age at sign-up. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, please contact us at privacy@sparboesystems.com and we will delete the account and associated data.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy. Material changes that affect what data is sent to third-party AI providers, or that affect how you can withdraw consent, will be surfaced in-app and will require renewed consent before AI features continue to function.
